First JAKEe Design CyberTrucks Hit the Road...Part 1

First JAKEe Design CyberTruck

Wrap Designs Hits the Road

Part 1

Update as of September 1, 2024: I just added a Part 2 to this story.

If you are a reader of TeslaMagazine.org, and you are a CyberTruck fan, you are likely aware of my original design reference concept which I first published on November 24, 2019, that consists of a Wrap design that fundamentally metamorphosizes the design look of the CyberTruck and makes it look much more like a streamlined SUV.

I created the render below from a photo I took at a Tesla Showroom just after Tesla began deliveries of the CyberTruck.

For frame of reference I am including the original "before" photo I took which I modified to illustrate my design reference above, just so you can see the exact differences:

As I have pointed out before, when I first saw the CyberTruck, when Elon showed in off in November 21, 2019, my design mind kicked in, and saw it as being an incomplete design. In particular, I kept seeing the side windows as being an incomplete pyramid, or a pyramid that had been clipped or cut short, so I immediately started playing around and experimenting which changes to the overall geometry.

While I placed my order for a CyberTruck within a few minutes of them becoming available on the evening of November 21, 2019, I decided NOT to purchase a Foundation Series, as I didn't want to pay a $27,500 premium to be a beta tester. Specifically, I thought it was absurd Tesla was charing me $20K++ for FSD, which still (as of this writing) was not included in the CyberTruck. I decided to wait until Tesla worked out all the early flaws, so I hope to take delivery of my CyberTruck in about 6 months or so, at which time I will showcase it in detail.

It is excellent advice to avoid purchasing product from the first production run of just about any product as there are almost always inherent flaws that were overlooked, or not foreseen by the manufacturer that quickly become apparent once the product starts shipping to customers—from feedback.

Update: August 12, 2024: This dude

A fellow CyberTruck enthusiast who owns a CyberTruck sent me a link to a Facebook post that showed a wrapped CyberTruck that arguably comes closest to my original design. The owner, named Carlos Ruiz showed my image in his post which is seen below, which was obviously his target he showed his wrapper.

In the next four photos we see Carlos Ruiz's two-tone CyberTruck wrap based upon my JAKEe CyberTruck design reference. Carlos was disappointed with the first version, and said he asked his wrapper to fix a number of details that were off.

Carlos pointed out that the rear faux window wrap was cut too high, as it did not complete the pyramid geometry correctly.

Carlos also pointed out that he said the pinstripe was supposed to be 3/4 of an inch thick, and they made it way too skinny. Carlos thought added a red stripe just underneath the running light bar, which looks pretty dope, and he also added red trim on the bottom of the rearview mirror, which also looks very cool.

I want to make a few points:

Point 1: I played around like crazy with my red pinstripe idea over the past 5 years, and realized after a great deal of experimentation the ideal height or thickness of a pinstripe is a fat pinstripe that is identical in height to the height of the outer edges of the CyberTruck running lights as seen below. I don't know exactly what the height is, but if it's skinnier, it will not optimize the geometry.

Point 2: Nobody has achieved 100% of my design reference, and one thing I noticed is the ones that seem to come closest have left the Frunk top panel silver, which I believe to be a mistake. Why? I think the wrapping the Frunk lid or top makes it look like it blends perfectly with the black Frame around the CyberTruck windshield. Also, by wrapping the entire Frunk in black, beautifully highlights the and calls attention to the pyramid geometry, which a silver frunk top does NOT.

Carlos also powder coated his brake calipers in red as pictured below which looks pretty RAD...

The image below was the first image I discovered on Facebook from a Tesla owner who wrapped his CyberTruck using my original two-tone wrap idea with the rear sail faux window panel that completes my pyramid window shape.

The CyberTruck design above was done by Tyler Le, and he posted it on Facebook. While Tyler fundamentally incorporated my original JAKEe Cybertruck design reference concept he wrapped his top section in yellow, which looks very cool, in a Pittsburgh Steelers/Pirates/Penguins/Bumblebee kind of way...

Ironically, T-Sportline seemed to appreciate my rear window wrap idea as they now offer it, and they call it "Tesla Cybertruck Rear Window Fade Out PPF Wrap Kit", which they charge $199, and we see it pictured below.

A reader of TeslaMagazine.org loved my original design and wrote in to chat with me before he wrapped his CyberTruck, which is pictured below. He incorporated the new T-Sportline "Tesla Cybertruck Rear Window Fade Out PPF Wrap Kit", along with T-Sportline's CT7 radical 24 inch CyberTruck Fully Forged Lightweight Tesla wheels, and powder coated his brake calipers in red. He contemplated doing my two-tone version, but ultimately decided to go with more of Storm Trooper white with black trim vibe which looks awesome!!!!

Below is a close up view of the T-Sportline 24" rims, with red brake calipers which looks fantastic.

Below are a few more renders I created that showcase my JAKEe CyberTruck Design Reference idea. I could not help but notice that when a CyberTruck is wrapped in black, it makes it look way smaller than when it's wrapped in white. Black jeans have the same slimming effect of making a wearer look trimmer, whereas white jeans makes a wearer look heavier.

I kind of like the version below with the matching stainless steel wheel well trim, which looks very cool to me.

Just to illustrate how much cooler the CyberTruck looks with my rear faux window panel, I will offer another example based on this image I discovered on Facebook of a CyberTruck somebody wrapped in a great shade of red.

In the image below, I simply added my rear faux window wrap design, and its AMAZING how changing one little detail radically transforms the entire vibe and look of the CyberTruck, and to my way of thinking completes it.

One More Thang

Update: On August 3, 2024, I discovered Sauce Walka wrapped his CyberTruck following my original design, but in pink as seen below.

Below we see one of my original design concepts for the JAKEe CyberTruck Wrap idea in red, which is remarkably similar to Sauce Walka's CyberTruck wrap, which I really like in pink.

T-Sportline

Update: On August 13, 2024, I discovered T-Sportline completed a two-tone Cybertruck, which is pretty cool, although I think it would have looked better with a black frunk top.

More Wrap Design Ideas...

More Wrap Design Ideas

I have been a designer for four decades now, but more than anything I am a design fanatic of the highest order. The great graphic designer, Saul Bass once said "Design is thinking made visual" and I can't seem to stop thinking about how to optimize the design of the CyberTruck.

If you are a reader of TeslaMagazine.org you are likely aware of how I plan to wrap my CyberTruck, assuming I ever actually get it. I ordered my CyberTruck within the first five minutes of them being available for pre-order back in 2019 when Elon first showed off the CyberTruck and I received my confirmation to order it soon after Tesla recently formally opened up orders.

That being said, I have NOT ordered it yet, as I prefer a black interior, and I don't want to pay a $27,500 premium to be one of the first people to get a CyberTruck.

My Wrap Design Idea for CyberTruck

In other words, I don't feel comfortable paying an extra $20K for FSD (that is not currently available, with no ETA in sight) and a bunch of other stuff I don't really want. Not to mention, if I were to purchase a FOUNDATION model, I would not be able to take advantage of the $7,500 tax incentive.

So it's really anticlimactic as I thought I would be one of the first to get a CyberTruck, but from what I understand, it appears Tesla plans to move EVERYBODY to the front of the line—ahead of me—who is willing to pay a $20,000 or more realistically a $27,500 premium to buy a Foundation model...

So who knows what this means as far as delivery is concerned. I might not get my CyberTruck for more than a year...which sucks, but it is what it is, and I understand Tesla wants to offset the very high development costs of CyberTruck by charging a premium up front.

Also, if I end up having to wait a year or more, by the time I take delivery, maybe they will have figured out how to enhance the density of the 4680 batteries, so they get closer to 400 or 500 miles of range...Also, I think it's pretty likely that once Tesla gets caught up with demand, they will likely drop the price of the tri-motor CyberBeast to be only $10K more that the AWD, and that way I might end up closer to the initial expectation Elon created when he first showed off the CyberTruck ;-)

I am madly in love with the CyberTruck, but the two huge disappointments for me were the significantly lower range number and the significantly higher pricing. Oh, and I almost forgot, the fact that I was NOT in the line I thought I was in, is also a HUGE letdown...Oh well, first-world problems...and as they say, good things come to those who are patient...

More Design Wrap Ideas

The generic CyberTruck design looks fairly great, but at the same time, in my design mind, it looks unfinished and too monotone. Not to mention the fact it's a fingerprint magnet of the highest order. In other words, as cool as the naked/standard CyberTruck is, I want something that looks more otherworldly and friggin coolada...

Below is screenshot from a video review of the CyberTruck taken from a really great angle, so I modded it with my wrap design idea which looks really cool to me. I have said it before, and I will say it again, the CyberTruck to me is much more of a super cool SUV than a Truck design, and the image below really communicates that based on the scale and vibe.

When I see my design idea pictured above, without any other vehicles near, it looks more like a SUV or car to me that a Truck.

My wrap design plan is pictured above and the plan is to wrap the bottom of my CyberTruck in black, and add an additional triangle wrap behind the C pillar to significantly enhance the look of the CyberTruck.

I was recently playing around with some other ideas and I thought it MIGHT be interesting to wrap the wheel well covers in different colors. The first wrap idea (pictured above) shows the wheel well flare covers done with stainless steel wrap, which looks kind cool to me, as it gives it a more industrial and muscular look. Also, I created a similar version below with teal blue wheel well covers which also looks kind cool to me. It's kind of cool that I could pretty easily and inexpensively add details like these colored wheel flares and totally change up the vibe of my CyberTruck, and later easily remove or change them.

Below is another version of my wrap design that ads red stripe, which I think looks pretty RAD. I have NEVER owned a car in my life that was wrapped, but the CyberTruck seems like it's perfect for doing so, and it seem like it would be pretty fun...
